“Because you are alive,
everything is possible.” ― Thích Nhất Hạnh, |
Although not my most natural state, I have made it my life’s mission to see the world as an optimist, and this fundamentally impacts my approach to therapy. This certainly does not mean I treat my clients with naïveté. It does mean that I will recognize your highest potential, and hold it in great esteem, even if you are not yet able to. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Masters Degree in Community Counseling from Western Carolina University. I have 15 years of experience working in the mental health field. Because we do our best when we live our lives on purpose, my educational and personal pursuits have focused on mindfulness modalities including Hakomi, body-centered psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner. EMDR is a useful tool for PTSD and letting go of long held beliefs that no longer serve our greater well being. I integrate breathing techniques to manage stress and anxiety, and offer humor to broaden your frame of reference. I have specialties in processing trauma, working through addiction, and LGBTQ issues. I enjoy helping people learn coping skills so that they can care for themselves for a lifetime. Whatever brings you to therapy—addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, or a need to find your place in the world, we can work together towards unearthing your most joyful, authentic self. |
